The Corning UCAO closure provides environmental protection for fiber optic cable splices. In addition , the device provides excellent cable strain relief and space for storing loose buffer tubes. It can be installed with all standard cable jackets and is suitable for underground, duct and aerial applications. The compact design makes it ideal for splicing low to medium fiber count cables. The easy accessibility makes this closure ideal for access networks. The closure body consists of two plastic half-shells that are resistant to common environmental influences. The intersection of the half-shells is sealed with a reusable silicone ring. The closure has an integrated hinge at the top and five stainless steel and plastic tensioners at the bottom. The clamps can be closed by hand and easily opened with a screwdriver. An optional access lock can be attached to the clips to prevent unauthorized access. The two cable entry openings on each end of the sleeve can each accommodate a cable with a diameter of up to 21 mm. Alternatively, a sleeve with sealing wedges is available, each containing an opening with compression fittings. These connections simplify the installation of additional cables for future requirements. The cable sheath and the center element are strain-relieved by clamps fixed in the lower half-shell. The same clamps also provide earthing. The seal of the closure can be flash-tested using an optional pressure valve.
